CURATIVE EURYTHMY (EURYTHMY THERAPY)
In 1912 Dr Rudolf Steiner (1861 – 1925), an Austrian initiate, scientist and philosopher founded Eurythmy (Harmony in Rhythm) on the basis of Anthroposophy, Wisdom of the Human Being.
Eurythmy has three-fold aspect:
Firstly, as a performing art – visible speech and visible music – through movements.
Secondly, as Educational Eurythmy in Waldorf Schools and group therapy.
Thirdly, as Therapeutic or Curative Eurythmy.
The human organism is the most difficult instrument to tune. We are the Symphony of the Creative Word, and Sound is the source of our very existence.
It was in the year 1921, when a group of European doctors asked Dr Rudolf Steiner whether a sound, corresponding to a particular organ, could heal the patient through the movements of Curative Eurythmy. Invoking sounds with the corresponding movements of the limbs, one activates the “Inner Doctor” of the patient and works therapeutically for any given illness, psychosomatic or somatic.
Dr Rudolf Steiner has given innumerable indications of sound sequence. These curative exercises have to be done with utmost care and responsibility, because sounds and their corresponding movements are divine in nature.
Every single cell of our organism contains universal intelligence. The same cosmic principle unites us with the entire cosmos. There is constant communication within the organism, as well as in the universe. Hence sounds support bodily communication and, through resounding Curative Eurythmy, help to harmonise and integrate the out-of-tune organism.
Complete study to become a Curative Eurythmist extends up to six years. Any wrong dosage of sound with corresponding movement can become harmful, since Curative Eurythmy works on the same principles as Anthroposophical Medicine.
